Brian is a seasoned executive with expertise in sales leadership, revenue growth, and operational scaling. Before joining Black Slate Partners, he spent over a decade at Flex Fleet Rental, rising from VP of Sales to CRO, and ultimately CEO, where he led the company through multiple high-growth phases. At Black Slate, Brian brings a sharp focus on strategy, culture, and execution as he leads the company toward becoming the Mountain West’s most trusted roofing organization.

Garrett Best, CPA

Chief Financial Officer

With over a decade of experience in corporate finance, Garrett brings a strong track record in building scalable financial systems and driving operational clarity. Prior to joining Black Slate Partners, he held key finance and leadership roles at Biomerics, Flex Fleet, Cotiviti, and Verisk. As CFO, Garrett leads accounting, financial planning, reporting, and compliance across Black Slate’s family of roofing brands, creating the financial foundation for long-term growth.

Candace Tatton, SHRM-CP

Director of Human Resources

Candace is a people-first HR leader with a background in employee relations, compliance, and organizational development across high-growth companies. Before joining Black Slate Partners, she held HR leadership roles at Bear River Mutual, Summit Fleet, Flex Fleet Rental, and Amazon, where she gained a reputation for building strong teams and solving complex challenges. At Black Slate, Candace leads HR strategy, recruiting, and culture-building initiatives that support our mission and growth across all roofing brands.

Brockton Ballard

Director of Sales Systems & Training

Brockton leads sales process development, CRM strategy, and performance systems across all Black Slate roofing brands. With nearly a decade of experience in both B2B and B2C sales, he’s held leadership roles at Home Service Academy, Utah Mountain Air, and My Indoor Air Quality. He’s also consulted for SaaS, home service, and consumer brands, helping teams implement scalable sales and training infrastructure. At Black Slate, Brockton focuses on building repeatable systems that drive onboarding, lead optimization, and execution across every market.
